Seine and Bridges of Paris - beautiful landmarks to inspire all ages
The River Seine is one of the most recognisable features of Paris and runs through the capital for 13km. There are an astonishing 37 bridges and footbridges on the River Seine, connecting the Right Bank and the Left Bank and each has its own particular charm.Discover some of the remarkable bridges with a daytime stroll or enjoy the stunning views after dark when the illuminated bridges give the River Seine an enchanting aspect.
Today the oldest bridge over the Seine is the Pont Neuf, dating from 1607. Pont Neuf spans the river in two separate sections, one of 5 arches and one of 7, at Île de la Cité which was the centre of Paris in the middle ages. Inaugurated in 2006, and for use by pedestrians and cyclists, the Simone de Beauvoir Footbridge is the newest bridge on the Seine. Don't forget famous bridges such as the Pont des Arts or 'lovers bridge', where you can admire hundreds of padlocks left by lovers and enjoy amazing views of the city. The Pont d'Iéna at the base of the Eiffel Tower is another favourite with visitors, and you can explore the most famous monument in the city amid delightful river vistas.Visit two or three bridges or choose a route that stops at several. Or why not make the most of views from the river by using the bateau bus to get to each location.
